The 81st winner of the 2000 Guineas, held on Wednesday 1st May 1889 over the Rowley Mile, was Enthusiast (25/1), a chestnut colt by Sterling out of Cherry Duchess, owned by Mr Douglas Baird. The winner won by a head in 1 minute 52.20 secs, with 3/4 length back to the third. A field of 9 runners contested the race which was worth £4,000 (Equivalent to £480,000 in 2017)
